Croton Falls - Josephine P. Coviello died peacefully at the age of 98 at her home in Croton Falls, NY on March 14, 2019. She was born the fourth child to Marie Morrow and Dominick Curcio at their home in Chappaqua, NY, December 22, 1920.
Josephine was an active member of the community. She had volunteered for the Putnam Hospital for over 50 years, both at the hospital gift shop and the Eagle Eye Thrift shop. Her leadership qualities were evident as she eventually ran both the gift shop and the Eagle Eye. In her younger years she worked for the Reader’s Digest and led a team of more than 25 secretaries, a notable accomplishment, before she settled and started a family.
Josephine was married to Anthony Coviello Sr. in May 1946 and together they raised four boys before Anthony passed in 1971. Josephine dedicated her life to raising her family but still found time to get involved with the school board. In fact, she became head of the PTA for many years. Later in life, after raising her children she went back to working as an aide for special needs children in the North Salem School district and retired from the school in 2010 with over 25 years of service. This job, by far, was her favorite as she enjoyed working with young children with special needs.
Josephine is survived by her sons, Michael, Joseph, and Stephen Coviello, and sister Dolores Antinucci of Indian Lake, NY; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also a niece Mary Louise Demaso and nephew Nicholas Palmieri. She was predeceased by her eldest son Anthony Coviello Jr. Stephen, her youngest, shared a special relationship which brought her many laughs and he continued to care for her until she passed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church in Somers, NY. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Somers, NY.
