Obituary

Hugh Daniel Power, born April 15, 1962, joins our heavenly father and all our loved ones in heaven this morning October 23, 2019. With his children by his side to his last breath and in their arms, Hugh rests in peace after a heroic battle with cancer.
Hugh is survived by his former wife Elizabeth and their 4 children: Luke, Anthony and wife Katie, Joseph, and Lizzy, and Hugh's siblings Johnny, Bobby and wife Mary, Maureen, Tommy and wife Susan, Danny and his beloved parents Mary and John Power. Hugh is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Hugh was a dedicated teacher in New York City promoting literacy and his passion for equality. Hugh took pride educating students from all over the world. Hugh is known for always having a positive outlook. His optimism burned bright to all and was loved by all. His contagious smile always brightened people's days and his generous heart spread love around. Besides his dance moves like Mick Jagger, Hugh was a prolific reader and writer, yet his greatest passion was for his children.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 26, 2019 at 11am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held on Friday October 25th from 4pm-8pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY.

Condolences to the Power family and to all Teds friends. Ted was larger than life. He made people laugh and had the best case of perma grin. I recall spending many long nights with Ted signing and dancing at Norms and learning his Mick moves and I feel only blessed that I was able to share some of my early Brewster days with Hughie and the entire Power family. Fretwell now has his good buddy back.

My condolences. I knew Hughie when we were very young. Nothing but fond memories of our early days in Brewster.

Our deepest condolences to Hugh’s family and friends. He was a valued colleague, a popular teacher who never gave up on even the most challenged students. He will be missed by many, many students and colleagues, current and former, including us. His earnest efforts on behalf of his students are a wonderful legacy.
